music productions by Sina Vodjani

Sina Vodjani

Sina Vodjani was born in Isfahan / Iran but grew up in Tehran, San Francisco and Paris. The musician and press photographer has been working for international agencies like Ullstein Bild for years, mainly working on travel documentaries. He gained his first experience with a camera as a child, helping out in a monochrome laboratory and starting an apprenticeship at Photo Montmartre in Paris after finishing his schooling – he then carried on working in portrait photography. Sina moved to Hamburg in 1975, hoping to further his artistic career as a photographer, and also made a name for himself as a performing artist as well; he then decided to devote himself to studying composition, in addition to working as a photographer. He finished studying music (main subject guitar) in Bremen in 1986.

Sina documented his stay in India with his camera and was introduced to the art of sitar playing and ragas while in the country. He was given new inspiration for both music and photography while staying in Tibet, among other countries – he recorded prayer chants in Tibet and melted these together with traditional oriental sounds and modern rhythms. During a four-week trip to Iran in 2005 he gathered inspiration for his Zarathustra project, which consists of a CD, DVD and photo book with expressive images of the people and landscapes of Sina’s native country.

He developed the idea of The Fragrance of Japan in 2006. With his tireless endeavours as photographer and producer for this fascinating project, Sina Vodjani wishes to express his profound admiration for the Japanese pianist Eiko Yamashita.

Sina Vodjani
